What To Wear

The average September temperatures at Camp Navarro can range from 70 degrees during the day to 50 degrees at night. Please check weather conditions prior to arrival. We suggest bringing a lot of layers, so you can easily adjust to the changing temperatures.

We encourage everyone to dress in a way that is comfortable… whatever that means to you 😊 That said, we are excited about hosting an Indian wedding in the woods, and if you are interested in wearing Indian attire for the wedding events, please feel welcome to do so! We have provided some suggestions on where to purchase clothing in the Indian Wedding FAQs section.

Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT wear heels! But if those are your dancing shoes of choice, feel free to change into them at the reception when we are on a wood floor! We also do not recommend bringing any real jewelry, given the shared accommodations/bathrooms. Thank you!

Mehndi – Smart Casual

  • We recommend dressing in layers, as the event will be held outdoors.
  • If you would like to wear Indian attire, we’d recommend kurtas for men and anarkalis or salwar kameez for women.
  • Please be advised that we will be concluding the evening with a bonfire.

Wedding Ceremony – Colorful Semi-Formal

  • Men: Suit or sport coat
  • Women: Semi-formal cocktail dress or sundress + shawl or jacket (may be chilly in the Redwood Cathedral). Please refrain from wearing black – the more colorful, the better!

If you would like to wear Indian attire:

  • Men: Kurta pyjama. All colors would be great, except black!
  • Women: Anarkalis or saris. All colors would be great, except black and white!

Reception Dinner – Elegant Formal

  • Men: suit and tie or sport coat
  • Women: Cocktail dress ((long, midi or short)

If you would like to wear Indian attire:

  • Men: Actually, most men wear formal suits to Indian wedding receptions!
  • Women: Party saris of any color (this is a term you will find listed on most Indian clothing websites)

Meals

We are both gluten-free and vegetarian, and many of our family members are also dairy-free! So we think we have most dietary restrictions covered. We will be providing vegetarian meals throughout the weekend, with plenty of gluten-free and dairy-free options. If you have any concerns or serious food allergies, please contact us at austinandsonia@gmail.com.

We encourage you to bring any snacks you may require throughout the weekend. Particularly if you plan on doing a lot of hiking or are prone to getting hangry!

Indian Wedding FAQ

This is my first Indian wedding! What can I expect?!

We are excited you’ll be celebrating with us! Here’s some more information about the Indian events we’ll have throughout the weekend:

Mehndi: A traditional pre-wedding event in which the bride has henna applied to her hands and feet in intricate designs. We will have a henna artist for anyone who’d like to participate! We will also have a buffet dinner, some speeches, and games for all of us to get to know each other.

Bharaat: A pre-wedding procession with drumming and dancing to make sure that the groom shows up at the wedding altar! Although this event is typically done by the groom’s side, we invite everyone to participate… just make sure you are ready to dance!

Ceremony: Our ceremony will be a unique blend of Indian and Western customs filled with personal significance. The ceremony will be performed in English.

Where can I purchase Indian attire?

For those in Chicago -- check out Devon Street!

For those in California -- check out University Avenue, near UC Berkeley!
